The people of Inyong-Orong Community in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has condemned in its entirety the unauthorized and illegal constitution of Caretaker Committee of Inyong-orong Development Committee by the Executive Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Mr. Paul Lawrence Paul.
Addressing newsmen on behalf the Chiefs and the entire people of the Community, Chief Erasmus Amanyanabo said Mr. Paul Lawrence Paul summoned a Town Hall meeting of the community on the eight of February 2021 and brought out list of names from his pocket and personally called out five persons whom he had unilaterally chosen in the comfort of his office to run the affairs of the community for three months.
Chief Amanyanabo stated unequivocally that the unilateral appointment of a five-man Caretaker Community Development Committee for Inyong-orong Community without due consultation and input of the Community by all stakeholders by the Chairman of the council as illegal, unconstitutional and unacceptable by the entire people of the community.
He noted that the action of the executive chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, is tantamount to introducing politics of Division, thuggery, militancy and unwarranted agitation in the community.
Chief Amanyanabo called on Governor Nyesom Wike, Security Agencies and the public to hold Paul Lawrence Paul liable for any breach of the public peace and loss of lives in Inyong orong community if the committee is allowed to stay.
Meanwhile, in-line with the long aged tradition and custom of fairness in the community and maintenance of peace and harmony, the community through the Council of Chiefs, Elders, Women, Youths and other stakeholders have constituted a five-man CDC to pilot the affairs of the community at the interim.
Those appointed are Mr. Atamisi Titus Chairman, Mr. Wisdom Maxwell Secretary, Elder Friday Urang financial Secretary, Mrs. Dinah Johnny Treasurer, and Mr. Ineme-Awaji Isaiah member.
The appointment is with immediate effect.
