As part of efforts by government to ensure accountability in the management of funds, the statutory audit exercise of the office of the State Auditor-General on accounts of Ministries Departments and Agencies, MDAs, for the accounting year ending 31st December 2020 has commenced in the state.
The audit exercise is being preceded by a four day capacity building workshop for staff to boost their performance.
Declaring it open, the Head of Ministerial Accounts in the office of the State Auditor-General, Doctor Christian Barisua Yorkina urged the staff to maintain a high level of integrity and technical competence noting that audit is shifting from the traditional manual to computer assisted audit Techniques, CAAT
Charging the staff to make practical and adequate use of the IDEA, CAAT skills already acquired in previous training in current year audit exercise, Dr. Chris Yorkina appealed to MDAs to update their record exercise and make all records needed by the audit team available warning that any MDA that delays the audit exercise beyond the required time frame will be summoned before the Public Account Committee of the Rivers State House of Assembly
He intimated stakeholders in the audit process that this year’s audit would focus on performance, compliance, regulatory and statutory audit.
