An Elder statesman Chief Jasper Jumbo has advised the Federal Government to engage only Police Officers that they can afford to pay at the end of the month.
Chief Jumbo who was reacting to the recent presidential directive that ten thousand Police Officers should be recruited annually in an interview with Radio Rivers Airport Correspondent, Darlington Amarame at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa noted that the decision to employ new Police Officers to complement the efforts of other security agencies to fight crime was commendable but if they were not well paid they would not be able to perform better.
In his reaction the law maker representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chindah said the President’s directive may not be realized.
According to him engaging the services of new Police officers was not a major security problem of the country but providing better welfare package for the existing Police officers to enable them perform well in their respective assignments.
