GOVERNOR WIKE SAYS ANOTHER CAMPUS OF THE RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN OGONI-LAND.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says another Campus of the Rivers State University will be established in Ogoniland, at the Modern Secondary School Saakpenwa in Tai Local Government Area.

He also said that the State Government would partner Emohua Local Government Council to bring back Government Secondary School, Emohua.

Governor Wike stated this at the flag-off and foundation laying ceremony of Emohua Campus of the Rivers State University, performed by the immediate Past Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Ndowa Lale at Rumuche, Emohua Local Government Area.

The Governor noted that the decision to establish the new Campuses was in line with the dreams of the founding fathers of the University to propel development across the State.

While noting his belief in the Proper Maintenance of existing Tertiary Institutions in the state to the satisfaction of all, rather than establish new ones, Governor Wike directed the Management of the University to release more funds to the contractor handling the project to ensure quick completion of work to enable him commission it by May next year.

Performing the flag off, Professor Ndowa Lale commended Governor Wike for his efforts towards the holistic development of the State, particularly the education Sector, knowing its importance to the development of the state and nation.

Professor Lale opined that the establishment of the Multi-campuses of the University would impact positively on the Socio-economic activities of the People of Emohua.

            Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Professor Nlerum Okogbule, described the establishment of the campus as a worthy Legacy  by the Governor, emphasizing that he has brought the vision of the founding fathers of the University to promote development of the state to reality.

In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the Rivers State University, Justice Iche Ndu retired, said the event was in fulfillment of the Governor’s promise to establish a campus of the Rivers State University in Emohua for which funds had already been released and contract also awarded to a reputable contractor.

Professor Okogbule announced that the campus would serve as Faculty of Social Sciences while academic activities would commence at the 2022/2023 academic session by October next year.

In his remarks and project description, the Director of Physical Planning, Rivers State University, Ben Woke said the Emohua Campus of the Rivers State University would comprise Faculty Building, Administration Buildings, Hostels, Health Centre, Guest House, Police Post, Shopping Centre and Maintenance Building.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku described the flag off of the Multi Campuses of the Rivers State University as a Phenomenal development and a great day in the history of the State and the University.

 Meanwhile, Governor Wike will flag-off the Etche Campus of the Rivers State University today.
