The Supreme Court’s order stopping the ceding of seventeen oil wells from Rivers State to Imo State has been described as a welcome development.
Some Public Affairs Analysts and Legal Practitioners including Promise Chinda, Michael Amara, Stella Chisom and Priscillia Chinwo appealed to government at the centre and Imo State government to obey the apex court’s order to ensure transparency and accountability in governance as the oil wells belong to Rivers State.
The respondents called for more efforts by government to cushion the high cost of living and unemployment rate in the country.
Recall that the Apex Court also barred the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission and office of the Accountant General of Federation from approving or ceding the oil wells at Akri and Mbede to Imo State.
