POLICE BRUTALITY

A businessman, Mr Nnamdi Obi has appealed to the state judicial commission of inquiry to carry out a thorough and comprehensive investigation of all the alleged brutality orchestrated by the disbanded Special Anti- Robbery Squad and ensure that those culpable are prosecuted according to the law.
Mr Obi who made the appeal while appearing before the commission in Port Harcourt said successful prosecution of all the indicted police officers would enhance professionalism and instill discipline among agencies in the state.
He told the panel that he was humiliated and harrased by officers of Elimgbu Division while trying to unravel the circumstsnces that led to the accident that involved his vehicle along Igbo Etche road in february 2016 and prayed that the panel to secure the release of his vehicle and the ten million Naira compensationn be paid as a result of the trauma and violation of his fundamental human right,
Mr Obi emphasized that life has become difficult and unbearable for him since the incident, as his vehicle was his alternative source of livelihood.
Radio Rivers correspodent, Francis Golden reports that the commission adjourned the matter to the tenth of december 2020 for defence while the panel struck out three petition for lack of jurisdiction.
