The Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Matters on Tuesday threw away a suggestion for married under-aged girls to have voting rights.
The Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya while speaking with newsmen in Abuja said the Committee had resolved that any woman under the age of sixteen cannot be allowed to vote even if she was married.
Gaya explained that a group had submitted a memorandum, clamouring for the enablement of under-aged married girls to vote.
On the suggestion for elections not to be held on Saturdays again, the lawmaker said that same argument would come up even if any other day was fixed for elections.
