RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT ADVANCES PLAN TO AUTOMATE EVERY VEHICLE IN THE STATE.

Rivers State Government has begun the process of automating every vehicle in the State, especially in the Port Harcourt City.

Commissioner for Transport, Osima Ginah, who stated this while unveiling the new platform tagged “RivTraMis” during a meeting with stakeholders in the transport sector at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall, Port Harcourt said the automation was a stop centre that would eliminate double taxations and theft.

Ginah who hinted that the Rivers State Government was desirous to make Port Harcourt a Transport hub urged unions and associations in the transport sector to take advantage of the innovation and educate their members.

The Commissioner for Transport said the Ministry was sensitizing transporters on the new system, but hinted that when fully operational the Ministry would go after defaulters.

Also speaking, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Rivers State Command, Salisu Umaru Galadunehi while reiterating the Commission’s call for an integrated transport system in the state said on assumption of office he was surprised to see that in Rivers State one cannot differentiate between a Taxi and a Private vehicle.

On his part, the Special Assistant to the State Governor on I.C.T, Ibifuro Asawo while enumerating the importance of the platform said the ICT office and the Ministry of Transport had started the process of educating stakeholders in the transport sector on the benefits of the platform and urged transporters to embrace the initiative.
