RIVERS STATE AUDITOR GENERAL CHARGES TAX PRACTITIONERS IN THE STATE TO ENCOURAGE THEIR CLIENTS TO PAY TAX AND STOP TAX EVASION.

The office of the Rivers State Auditor General has charged tax practitioners in the state to encourage their clients to pay tax and stop tax evasion

They have also been told to Synergizes between the FIRS and State Internal Revenue Service in raising the revenue profile of both the Federal and state governments.

The Head, Ministerial Account office of the State Auditor General Dr Christian Barisua Yorkina gave the advice when members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CITN, Port Harcourt and district Society paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Barisua Yovkina who is also a Fellow of CITN, emphasized the need for tax to bring all tax payers and taxable items into the tax net as well as encourage the SMEs and Medium Scale Enterprises to make regular remittance of their revenue to the state government in line with extant laws.

He assured the institute of the support of the office of the State Auditor General to achieve set objectives

Speaking earlier, the Chairman Port Harcourt and District Society of CITN, Godwin Ogbu said the visit was part of the body’s stakeholders visit to partner members to reposition the body for greater achievement.

 He reiterated the commitment of CITN to eradicate tax touting and revitalize the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR base of the state.
