GOVERNOR WIKE CHARGES THE MEDIA TO FASHION OUT WAYS TO TACKLE THE PROBLEM OF INSECURITY THREATENING THE CORPORATE EXISTENCE OF THE COUNTRY.

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has charged the Media to fashion out ways to tackle the problem of insecurity threatening the corporate existence of the Country.
Governor Wike gave the charge during the opening ceremony of a three- day third National Conference of the Nigeria Union of journalists holding at the Obi Wali International Centre Port-Harcourt with the theme “The Media, Insecurity and National Unity .
The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo also noted that the media as an integral part of government should proffer solution to the numerous challenges facing the Country and encourage good governance.
The Governor commended the leadership of the NUJ for recognizing his contributions to the development of democracy and service to humanity through his induction into the NUJ Integrity Hall of Fame.
Also speaking, his Abia State Counterpart, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu commended the courage of the media in shaping the society and for organizing the conference at this critical time urging them to continue to maintain the role model status.
In his speech the Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed represented by the Zonal Director, Federal Ministry of Information called on the Media to take advantage of the conference to address critical issues confronting the nation.
The Chairman of the occasion O.C.J Okocha. SAN commended the leadership of the NUJ for organizing the conference at this time the Country was in a cross road noting that the theme of the Conference,.”The Media, Insecurity and National Unity was apt.
In his vote of thanks the State NUJ Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley thanked the State Government for providing logistics for the conference and wished the delegates a memorable stay in Port-Harcourt.
